Watershed Planning

“Everything runs downhill…” 

-a favorite quote often used when complaining about a decision, or choices, made by someone else that we now have to deal with the consequences of.    

If you think about it, the streams, rivers, & lakes we enjoy (or the low spot in our yard or driveway we don’t) exist because of the same principle.  Water runs down the sides and collects at the bottom of the “bowl” we call a watershed.  And just like the quote, anything that water moves over or thru can come with it.  

That could be:

• too much water because it can’t be absorbed or slowed,
• water that hasn’t cooled off,
• chemicals applied or spilled,
• soil,
• oil from that leak we haven’t gotten fixed,
• extra fertilizer,
• “post-pet” deposits

  The list goes on. …. 

We all live in a watershed, so what we do here affects someone after us.

Watershed planning and protection includes making decisions that keep what we put down or move around, in place.  And if we can’t – what might we use instead?  That’s where we can help!
